James "Bonecrusher" Smith, born in North Carolina, a former heavyweight boxer renowned for his knockout power and for being the first college graduate to win a world heavyweight title. After obtaining a degree in business administration from Shaw University, he enlisted in the military. He began his professional boxing career in 1981, while still in the military, earning the nickname "Bonecrusher." He won the WBA Heavyweight title in 1986 at Madison Square Garden and fought legendary opponents, including Tim Witherspoon, Larry Holmes, Frank Bruno, and Mike Tyson.
Ray Mercer, nicknamed "Merciless" for his hard-hitting, aggressive style, was born in Jacksonville, Florida, and is a former heavyweight boxer and Olympic gold medalist (1988 Seoul). A sergeant in the Army, Mercer started boxing in his twenties. He won the gold medal in the heavyweight division at the Seoul Olympics and turned professional in 1989, winning the WBO Heavyweight Title in 1991 by knocking out Francesco Damiani.
